Easy Raspberry Meringue Cake with Chocolate Ganache
The first time I made a meringue cake was during Passover. Flourless and usually dairy free, well, that is if you serve it with just fruit, meringues make a perfect, usually light dessert which makes them well suited after a heavy, filling meal. In this case, with a ton of chocolate and exquisite raspberry flavored filling, this cake made for a decadent affair. I think everyone kept the

Tin Roof Chocolate Peanut Bars and Missing George
Some days, well, some days are just that. The last few days I've been waking up sad and very unfocused. I'm not saying that I'm the most focused person as it is, but I just couldn't quite figure out what's been bugging me. Manservant has his faults, but I knew it wasn't anything he did. (Well, I probably shouldn't look to hard!) Nope. It wasn't. And then I remembered. Not that I've forgotten,

What To Do with an Ugly Chocolate Fudge Loaf Cake and Happy New Year!
"What to do with an ugly cake!"
Zoe flew back to Philly yesterday, which meant I spent a day doing nothing. Before leaving we woke up early and she snuggled in my bed just to get in a few extra moments of each other's company. My daughter will always be my child no matter her age, and I am grateful for that. It was hard to let her go after being surrounded by so much love for two weeks,

Dark Chocolate Covered Candied Orange Peels and a Whole Foods Giveaway
"Dark Chocolate Covered Orange Peels
are simple to make and even easier to eat!"
The year's end is suddenly upon us and it has hit me with a vengeance; a good kind of vengeance though. The kind that says it is good to be begin again. Though we haven't had Alex's company, we have had the

Chocolate Fudge Cookies by Candlelight
Ever since I've been back from Phoenix I've been working like a dog to get everything put away. Just like a dog who searches for the best place to bury his bone, I've been looking for the perfect place for that certain picture or piece of furniture. This is good in the sense that I love cleaning out and throwing away. I also love new arrangements of knickknacks and other common hoi polloi.

Red Canyons and Black Bottom Cupcakes
Sometimes I think spring break was invented just so I would want to go to college. Of course, I didn't know that until I went to college, but I have to admit that upon graduating college, (yes, I did!) I really missed spring break. It took about 10 more years in the work force and then 5 more years before my kids were old enough, to start back down the spring break road. And now I miss

NanaCakes Chocolate Banana Bread and a #Whole Foods #Giveaway!
Every now and then it is nice to have a helping hand in the kitchen. I'm not necessarily
talking about an extra pair of hands-though those would be nice-I'm talking about something that would help take breakfast, lunch and dinner decisions off my plate. At least every once in awhile. Let's face it-even the best of us get in a rut here and there. So, it was with anticipation that I

Flourless, Gluten Free, Passover Fudge Cake and My Passover Menu
Ach! Such a crazy title for a very simple cake. I'm not sure when flourless chocolate cake became the rage, only to be followed by little molten lava cakes, but I know that every restaurant seems to have one or the other on their menu. And just like they are everywhere so are the numerous recipes that extoll their virtues. I'm not sure how old I was when my mother gave me the recipe for her

#Matsuhisa and Mocha Cookies (It got a little better!)
The evening began with the pass off of fudge brownies filled with cookie dough and a bunch of coffee mocha cookies. (I keep my cookies in a giant zip lock bag so they stay moist. I can assure you that when the bag is opened it smells like a just brewed cup of coffee.) A Paul Prudhomme recipe produced these cookies and I have no idea what took me so long to bake them. This is an adult cookie,

It Doesn't Get Much Better than Fudge Brownies with Cookie Dough Filling
The weekend was supposed to find us watching Alex ski joring in Minturn outside of Vail. Due to mysterious reasons the event was canceled and we didn't get to see Alex on skis, being towed by a galloping horse, all the while going over small jumps and collecting large rings on his arms. Another event is scheduled next weekend in Leadville which we won't be able to attend. I will have to

Salted Butterscotch Chocolate Tart or Gone, But Not Forgotten
Somehow it is Tuesday and I am still feeling Monday. Which means I am feeling a bit disorganized, but you know me by now, to know that don't you? My weekend was fine, actually more than fine. Saturday found me at the Denver Dog Show looking at these.
I'm in deep trouble, I know. Zoe had checked out Skye terriers (without me knowing) on Facebook and found a breeder that might be able to

Soft Chocolate Crackles with Mint M and M's or I Should Have Baked These First
This week I've baked one coffee cake, one batch of chewies and three batches of cookies. Plus we received a box of fudge in the mail. Sugar is pouring out of our ears and Manservant is looking forward to January because he has no will power. To be honest, I was looking for a coffee cake that I made when my children were born 23 years ago. This wasn't it. But in that quest, I found the one

Chocolate Lava Cake And a Birthday
A long, long time ago or once upon a time, (but it really doesn't matter as this fact is not essential to the story), two people met at college and fell in love. After 4 years of dating, 3 college degrees and a move to Florida, they got married. They traveled and worked and had dogs. They ate and cooked and made lots of friends. They moved back to Colorado and were very happy but something

Chocolate Cherry Chocolate Crumb Cookies
One good thing about gray, chilly days, besides not being hot, is that they offer themselves up as cookie days. They kind of scream at you, "Perfect day to bake cookies!", don't they? Well, they do me. It is a damn good thing I don't live in Seattle because I'd probably weigh 500 pounds! Last week we had a gray, chilly day so I decided it was high time to bake cookies. I love baking

Texas Sheet Cake
The rabbit catcher is from Texas. Houston to be exact. A long u please.. That's how they all say it when they talk and catch up, y'all. We met in Colorado where we both moved to escape our various climates and to go to school. Yes, I did go to school, kids, even if I met your daddy there. And I did graduate and not just with an MRS as some like to say. And thirty some years later we are

Run Like the Wind or a Quick Chocolate Cake
Chocolate Cake and Pinwheels!
Race Day is now behind us and surely the next race is yet to come. It appears recovering from tendonitis needs to happen before she can think about San Francisco. My daughter, the runner. Who ever would have thought? Not me. But competitive she is. Not only did she surpass the goal of raising $2500 per runner she had her PBR or personal best record as

Chocolate Brownies with Chocolate Glaze or Nobody Doesn't like Sara Lee
Chocolate Fudge Brownies with Chocolate Glaze
Growing up my mantra might have been "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee!". If you know the jingle from their television commercials I apologize for this being stuck in your head for the rest of the day. And even if you don't know the jingle I hope you know Sara Lee. Sara Lee was cheesecakes with cherries and graham cracker crusts all in a foil pan

Cupcakes for a Cure or Watch My Daughter Run
Shamrock Shake Cupcake
Life isn’t always about
cupcakes-you know those happy free days where calories don’t matter, the sun is
always shining, a rainbow is overhead and a gentle breeze helps the trees make
that beautiful rustling sound. And probably the tulips are blooming and there‘s
a cute little puppy at your feet. No, on some days we need to keep track. We
need to take stock of

Chocolate Krantz Cake or Babka and Jerusalem
Chocolate Krantz Cake
Sliced!
It has
been almost a year since I’ve been in Jerusalem.
It is calling me. The past year was difficult as many things that were supposed
to happen didn’t and well-that’s the way the cookie crumbles-so to speak. Being
Jewish I get the equivalent of two new years and I really do try to make both
count. This year is all

Chocolate Fudge Cake and an 81st Birthday
Chocolate Fudge Cake
It is a
new year. It will be a good year. (I’m supposed to say this twenty times a day
for 3 weeks and then my brain will start believing it.) I read that somewhere
but I won’t bore you with the other 19. It will
be a good year but right now I feel more optimistic telling you what will taste
good this year. I have made this triple layer chocolate fudge cake for
