Banana Granola Toasting Bread
The week has flown by with our mysterious visitor from China who comes and goes, that sometime we aren't even sure if he's home. It seems he's going more than he's coming and I'm missing him even though he's close by. I have tried to keep him well fed while he has been around, so he can have a change from his normal diet of noodles and noodles, sold on the streets of Shanghai. His favorite

10 Minute Burger Bread or Fast Food for Super Bowl
So you need something fast, but you don't want it to be the usual? I've got you covered. I made this bread countless times when my kids were in high school and they needed something for all those sport meetings we had to attend. It is quick, easy and adaptable, unlike a lot of those coaches we had to deal with. No, I do not miss those meetings at all. Tennis season made me cringe, swim team

Green Chile and Chorizo Bread or Barbarian Bing Bread
Are you ready? It seems that the last few weeks has found our Hatch chile friend, Preston, making the rounds. Lately, I've seen so many chile recipes out there and now there is one more. Mine also contains the home made chorizo that I mentioned in my last post but one could also use store bought. Just don't skip the Hatch chilies. I never say no to chilies even though my freezer is still full

Honey and Cream Baked Bread and a #Whole Foods #Giveaway
There aren't too many things sweeter than honey-except perhaps your own honey! Whole Foods is promoting honey this summer and one can't promote honey without promoting bees. This honey and cream baked bread is sure to hit the spot. Thank the honeybee for about one third of your diet. Bees pollinate more than 100 different crops in the US today and bees are disappearing at the rate of

NanaCakes Chocolate Banana Bread and a #Whole Foods #Giveaway!
Every now and then it is nice to have a helping hand in the kitchen. I'm not necessarily
talking about an extra pair of hands-though those would be nice-I'm talking about something that would help take breakfast, lunch and dinner decisions off my plate. At least every once in awhile. Let's face it-even the best of us get in a rut here and there. So, it was with anticipation that I

Maple Glazed Challah Rolls and A Winner!
You won't believe what just walked across my front yard. Yep, Mister or Missus turkey. It is freezing outside-like single digits, with about 2 inches of snow on the ground, but my turkey is foraging. I best find some food to sprinkle, but then it would be like feeding squirrels. Timely, huh? No pics-shoot, I'm still in my pj's! I've got a ton of stuff to do with Zoe arriving tomorrow and Alex

Ma'aneesh or One Way to Get My Za'atar Fix
Oh my. I love za'atar. You know that, right? And I love baking bread, but I don't get to do that often enough. My fault, totally. I love flour and sugar and yeast. And I almost forgot the butter. But I think what I really love is the smell. There is nothing like the aroma of fresh bread baking. Think about it. It is one of those smells that says, "I know you want me. So come and get me."

Feeling A Bit Blue Today or Blueberry Nut Bread
Blueberry Nut Bread
I'm feeling a bit blue today and it isn't because I discovered this blueberry bread in the fridge this morning. I had made several last week and gave one away to my neighbors but somehow this one was still hiding in its loaf pan on top of the eggs. It kept well and is still moist and good. Blueberry bread is perfect with your tea or coffee, as an afternoon snack,

Not My Mama's Chicken Pot Pie
Not My Mama's Chicken Pot Pie
Let me start by saying that my mama never made chicken pot pie. She bought chicken pot pie. And it was good. No, she never served pot pie for dinner but we did receive the cute mini pies when we were sick in bed or when the baby sittter was left instructions to serve it. Yes, the famous babysitter. The one who cut our Sara Lee brownies into 4 giant bites. But

New Orleans and King Cake
King Cake
I’ve got New Orleans on my mind. Way back in the 80’s
we were able to visit several times. Twice for a conference, once just for fun,
one with sadness attached. I love New
Orleans. I love the energy that it gives me. N’awlins
makes me feel like I’m in another world and I could use that feeling right now.
When I think of the Big Easy I think of my husband’s relations

Chocolate Krantz Cake or Babka and Jerusalem
Chocolate Krantz Cake
Sliced!
It has
been almost a year since I’ve been in Jerusalem.
It is calling me. The past year was difficult as many things that were supposed
to happen didn’t and well-that’s the way the cookie crumbles-so to speak. Being
Jewish I get the equivalent of two new years and I really do try to make both
count. This year is all

Green Onion Garlic Chive Skillet Cornbread with Ancho Chile Butter
I’m a Northerner. I like my cornbread sweet. Even then I still like to add honey, because honey is good with anything. Cornbread to me is one of those comfort foods. It goes perfect with baked beans, fried chicken, chili, soup. Yes, it is great with spicy food because the sweetness helps keep that spice under control. So why did I bake cornbread this week? I entered a contest sponsored by

Cinnamon Rolls
Cinnamon Rolls
When I grew up the only kind of yeast dough in the house was from a can. You know the rap on the counter pop ‘n fresh kind. Now granted, there was a lot of fun when it was your turn to rap that container against the counter. In fact it always made my heart skip a beat when it exploded while spilling its contents. But somehow I remember never

Bread Your 8 Year Old Can Make or 5 Minute, No Knead Artisan Bread
5 Minute Bread
I don’t know where I’ve been but it has been some time since the book, “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day” has been published. Well, actually it has been, like, from 2007 because I looked it up. I clipped out a recipe from the newspaper about this bread and I don’t know how long it has sat waiting for me to bake it, but my guess is it sat for maybe, oh, about 4 years. OK, I

Sage Roasted Chicken with Bread Salad
What hasn’t been said about Judy Rodgers famous roast chicken? OK- Judy Rodgers of the Zuni CafĂ© in San Francisco. Yeah- I know you don’t know her, you were probably racking your brain, like who is Judy Rodgers? Well, it doesn’t matter as long as you have this recipe. I first ate this in Denver at a restaurant that unfortunately is no longer there. But the food memory stayed and I

Onion Lover's Twist
It all began with challah-an onion lover’s challah. I think I was 20-ooh-I was really 20-once. But back to that challah and the person that baked it with me, my grandfather’s new wife’s daughter-in –law. (What a mouthful.) When you want to get to know someone one way to really get to know them is to cook, and boy did we. I learned about her and she about me and together we made something
