Seafood Paella
If compliments were worth money, I'd be a millionaire! This paella is the dish that garnered praise this time, which isn't surprising since it is courtesy of Yotam Ottolenghi, of Jerusalem cookbook fame. I've written about a few of his recipes and I'm sure I'll be writing about plenty more (Plenty is also one of his cookbooks, as is Plenty More!). His cookbooks are without a doubt, some of

Shrimp Salad Croissants
Shrimp salad croissants remind me of St. Augustine; old St. Augustine, the oldest continuously settled town in America. Why shrimp salad croissants? Well. A long, long time ago I can still remember when we drove to Jacksonville, Florida where Manservant had accepted his first real job, after completing his masters degree. It was 1981 which also was the year we got married. I remember

Pickapeppa Shrimp or 1 More Use for Pickapeppa Sauce
During my informative years to the best of my knowledge, Kankakee, Illinois did not have bottles of Pickapeppa sauce available at the grocery. They certainly didn't at Weiner's Superette. Kankakee did not have parties where Pickapeppa sauce was dripped over blocks of cream cheese and served with crackers. The refrigerators in Kankakee did not contain bottles of Pickapeppa sauce lurking

Halloumi and Oregano Shrimp Or Pass the Fried Cheese, Please!
It has been a long time since I visited Chicago. I miss it. Not only do I miss the wide open spaces-well, there used to be-on the drive from O'Hare to Kankakee, but I miss Chicago itself. I love the Windy City and finally I will be visiting again, but it won't be until January. Not exactly the best time of year to experience Chicago, but family obligations wait for no one! I believe we'll go

And So It Is and Grilled Lemon Shrimp Pasta
What do they say about good intentions? Ah well, I don't think I have to worry about hell, but I do have a lot of recipes piling up. It appears that my ability to juggle kids and the comings and goings of said beings, has interfered with getting these recipes to you! In my younger days when said kids were younger too, my organizational capabilities were at their height. Since they have

Okra Shrimp Bisque - Who Said Okra?
Fat Tuesday is tomorrow and with all the recipes I've been posting lately, well, they are making me fat. Fatter. Forget I mentioned it. Time to switch gears a bit and get back to the basics. Not that the recipe today is basic. But it is good and maybe it is good for you. It does contain veggies and shrimp, and okra does have lots of fiber and it contains protein, too. It is also quick to make

Barbecued Shrimp and the Challah is Rising
The challah dough is rising, the rugelach dough is in the fridge and the kadaif is thawing. Plus the chicken soup is in the freezer. And now I'm giving you a recipe for spectacular, truly not kosher, shrimp. Yeah, it seems strange to me, too. I was raised in a small town with maybe 80 Jewish families, and no one that I know of kept kosher. My grandparents to my knowledge, never ate pork or

Crispy Chipotle Shrimp and Corn
Summer's end is quickly approaching and I still have so much more to do. Yes, we are still fighting rabbits but their numbers have decreased considerably thanks to rabbit catcher. Our yard is looking fairly good thanks to his hard work and my suggestions?. Though we didn't have a garden this year, hopefully next year will bring better things into our life and our mouths!
Yesterday I

Teriyaki Shrimp or Glaze and Grill
Teriyaki is the Japanese cooking technique of marinating, and then grilling and glazing, usually chicken or fish. It is believed to have originated in the States, though the word teri means luster and yaki means broil or grill. Originally it contained four ingredients-mirin, sake, sugar and soy sauce. A worthy combination but one that has been somewhat Americanized as it has become quite a

Tomatoes, Shrimp and Grits or One Man's Grits is Another Man's Truffles
Swanky and Cheesy Shrimp and Grits
I tried to cook grits long ago, when I married a man from Texas whose mother grew up in Mississippi. It wasn't just that my husband, Mr. Rabbit Catcher, liked grits. It just seemed a proper thing to be able to do. After all I had married a somewhat Southern man, or so I thought. Growing up in Illinois, grits were not on any menu that my eyes had ever set

Brazilian Coconut Lime Shrimp Stew
By the time Sunday night
rolls around I am not in a great frame of mind to cook. I’ve laid around with
any luck over the weekend, and sometimes it is hard to get inspired. Going out
is not an option for us right now as our budget is very tight. I’m not a fast
food person and even if I caved and let my husband go to Chipotle I’d have a
hard time justifying the $8 or so that he would spend on

My Boy at the Sebastian in Vail and Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
It's Friday!
I love Fridays. Maybe it is because the weekend is ahead and I love weekends. Not that it matters when everyone is gone- but I still love weekends. Friday always lets me reflect on the week that has past and I had a good great, fabulous week. My sister in law came to visit from Chicago. We went to Vail and spent an awesome weekend at my son’s hotel. Well, it’s not

Mexican Garlic Lime Shrimp
As I look outside my window again I see my world engulfed in snow. Lots of snow. Denver had one of the best fall seasons that I remember, but now Mother Nature seems to make us want to pay. Suddenly I find myself thinking of all those warm places I’ve been and have yet to go. No, I don’t want to shovel. Most likely it will melt-soon, I hope.
Which leads me to think of Mexico. Beautiful
